History and Future of Ringtones

There is an adage that a person is identified by the company he keeps’. But lately, people tend to keep the company of his or her mobile phone more than anything else. Due to this, we can amend the saying like this, “a person can be identified by the cell phone that he or she owns and the ringtones that emanate from them”. Such is the importance of cell phones and ring tones have in the lives of people these days. A ringtone says volumes about the personality and character traits of people, just like the clothes they wear or the way they behave.
The present day ringtones have evolved from the old monophonic tones. Those tones of yesterday, with their ability to play only a single note at one time, often sounded monotonic and were tiresome to hear. Then came along the polyphonic tones, which were an improvement of the earlier types of tones, as 16 different sounds or notes could be played at a single moment. Music generated by musical instruments can be played in this mode.
However, with the advancement of mobile phone technology, real music and natural sounds can be played by the present day cell phones. With the addition of this technology, demand for these tones, called real tones, also surged. Websites catering to this demand mushroomed and the business of creating and distributing caller tones matured into a colossus that we see today. Now the business has not only come into its own but also is in the process of outgrowing the music track industry, the ringtone software industry and even the cell phone industry in near future. Some experts even think that ringtone business is going to be the biggest money spinner for the music track companies.
Websites are competing among themselves to gain the attention of people by offering varied and unique real tones in the market. Cell phone manufacturers provide ring tones embedded in the hand sets they sell. Even the MTV, a giant in the business of music tracks, have joined the action and are selling their melodies directly to the customers by joining hands with telecom operators.
Most websites offering mobile phone music looks like a supermarket or a one stop shop once you enter the site. There is a wide array of melodies along with wallpapers, games, logos and graphics for customizing your cell phone. The variety is so astonishing that even the uninterested will be tempted to buy some.
Presently, it is the MP3 format melodies that are ruling the hearts of cell phone users. However, newer formats like the Name tones that contain the name of the user along with an MP3 file and the Video caller tones which are a combination of a MP3 file and a small video clip, have also emerged.
But there are some skeptics who unthinkingly say that this is the utmost form of phone melodies and no major improvements can take place for some years. But considering the fact that it took only less than a decade for the initial crude forms of ringtones to grow into such a versatile and multifaceted art, and also that technology in all fields, including the sound technology, is developing in leaps and bounds, it is for certain that we will be witnessing even more user friendly and exciting, if there can be, technologies and formats of ringtones to tickle and excite the senses of the young and the old alike in the near future.

Sea Song Lyrics

You come from the foam - crested brine

It’s your skin shining softly in the moonlight

Partly fish, partly porpoise, partly baby sperm whale

Am I yours? are you mine to play with?

Joking apart, when you’re drunk you’re terrific

When you’re drunk I like you mostly late at night

You’re quite allright

But I can’t understand the different you

In the morning

When it’s time to play at being human for a while

We smile, we smile, we smile

You’ll be different in the spring, I know

You’re a seasonal beast

Like the Starfish that drift in with the tide, with the tide

So until your blood runs to meet the next full moon

Your madness fits in nicely with my own, with my own

Your lunacy fits neatly with my own

My very own

We’re not alone

101 Man Lyrics

But find men kissing too odd

Say all their friends are gay when in fact

They gave a man in tight vest a quick nod

And all those threats if you keep kissing

They’re gonna go report you to god

Yet if Christ really had that many disciples

There was probably one of you in his squad

And any news you receive would lead you to believe

Of the other world little is known

So that every gay presenter should really wear a sweater

With kids don’t try this at home

There are gay men you’ve knocked homophobics clean out

When most would have turned and ran

Gay men who hate it when they get called queer

And gay men who don’t give a damn

Some gay men go wearing women’s makeup

Just to prove to themselves they can

And on the masculine side of this whole wide world

There is no 101% man

Those who have only seen Gay Pride

Think it’s a life long license to shock

But men have kissed men since way back when

If you were caught you’d be put in a stock

And any news you receive would lead you to believe

Of the other world little is known

So that every gay presenter should really wear a sweater

With kids don’t try this at home

There are gay men who’ve knocked homophobics clean out

When most would have turned and ran

Gay men who hate it when they get called queer

And gay men who don’t give a damn

Some gay men go wearing women’s makeup

Just to prove to themselves they can

And on the masculine side of this whole wide world

There’s no 101% man

And when the Tom Robinson band sang

“Sing if you’re glad to be gay”

We all joined in, and though most of us weren’t

The song seemed to show us the way

And as the song reached it’s end you looked for the friend that

That made singing along feel O.K

It aint San Francisco but your end of term disco

And the dancefloor’s beginning to sway

There are gay who’ve knocked homophobices clean out

When most would have turned and ran

Gay men who hate it when they get called queer

And gay men who don’t give a damn

Some gay men go wearing women’s makeup

Just to prove to themselves they can

And on the masculine side of this whole wide world

There’s no 101% man

A Picture Postcard Lyrics

or put my lips to your hand.

Birmingham has gone to motors.

Take me home, keep your eyes on the road.

So don’t forget to kiss me if you’re really going to leave.

Couldn’t you take the second bus home?

Couldn’t you just take me with you?

I’m convinced that you’re from mars.
